Being in nature promotes one’s mental and physical well-being because of the sense of calm and self-awareness one experiences when they get lost in the scene of a flowing river, a peaceful mountain landscape, or a majestic forest. Like nature, my fabrics embrace the wearer, creating feelings of positivity and happiness through the use of natural colors.

My theme was heavily influenced by the beauty and nature I witnessed firsthand while studying abroad in Scotland. My time in Scotland helped me grow as a designer and I learned how to utilize AVA (CAD) software and disperse dyes to embrace sustainability. By using disperse dyes, I limited the amount of water and energy needed to print samples.

On the left is a 42 x 59 cm (16 x 23 inch) piece of watercolor paper that I painted on top of using Disperse Dyes as “watercolors”. Disperse dyes look different before and after they have been heat pressed because they react to the heat. After weeks of mixing and testing colors I finally came up with a color palette of 12 colors that I could use to paint with. On the right are my final fabric samples.
